Our demonstrator this month was Jason Breach, and Jason showed us how to turn Owls and Bunnies.
. .
The Owl.
The owl consisted of an elongated body with a recessed top to support the ball shape of its head.
. .
The head was turned between centres and then mounted between two rubber “O” rings to finish the ball.
This was then marked out and held in an homemade chuck to turn the flats for the eyes to be positioned, the previously turned eyes were then inserted.
.
The body was held in chuck jaws and a recess was turned to suit the head.
The Rabbit.
The rabbit consisted of two egg shapes put together to form the head and body. They were first turned between centres and then held in a homemade jam chuck to finish the shape.
The ears were turned from a square between centres and then cut down the middle on a band saw.
.
The flats for the position of the head and a flat base were sanded on a sanding disc mounted on a plywood base and held in the chuck with a dovetail mounting ring.
.
Jason also brought along a selection of his work for us to see.
