Monthly Meetings

The club meets on the last Thursday of each month. The programme can be seen on the calendar page.

 

Competition

Competitions are held at 5 of the monthly meetings throughout the year, with different themes for novice turners and an open topic for more experienced turners.

The topics for 2024 are as follows;

Novices – this is anyone who attended the Novice training course at the end on 2023 or is attending the current course, or any member who is new to turning.

•           April – Candlestick
•           May – Earing Stand
•           July – Box
•           August – Platter
•           October – Bowl

Intermediate & Experienced Turners;    A recently turned item of their choice.

Competition months are April/May/July/August/October

Members vote for their favourite piece at the meeting and points for both Competitions are awarded as follows;

                 5 points  –  First Place

                 4 points  –  Second Place

                 3 points  –  Third Place

                 1 point    –  Entering an item

A prize will be awarded to the turner with most points in each category at the Club AGM in November.

Tuition

A woodturning tuition course for novice turners is offered to HWT members twice a year, Spring and Autumn.

The course is held at Headway on Friday mornings 10am until 1pm and runs for 8 consecutive weeks, the fee for this course is £40.00 and spaces are limited.

These sessions are run by an AWGB accredited Tutor.

The club can also provide full day courses for turners of all levels through the AWGB.

Show attendance

We attend shows to attract members and sell items made by members.   The funds raised help to maintain our Club funds, keep subscriptions low and enable the purchase of new equipment.

Shows we are attending in 2024 are as follows;

•                   Golden Valley Vintage & Country Fair – Saturday 8th June
•                   Much Marcle Steam Rally – Saturday & Sunday 20th & 21st July
•                   Tenbury Wells Show – Saturday 3rd August
•                   Kington Show – Saturday 14th September
•                   Leominster Victorian Christmas Market – Saturday – 14th December
